Spreading The Word About World AIDS Day
As World AIDS Day approaches, members of the Youth Advisory Committee have taken the initiative to inform their peers about HIV/AIDS. This past week they created close to 100 handouts that included facts and myths about HIV/AIDS, a list of testing sites in the DC area, and red ribbons- the universal awareness symbol for HIV. Some YAC members also worked on posters that will be placed at their school.
World Aids Day, observed on December 1st every year, is a day dedicated to raising awareness on the AIDS pandemic. The idea was conceived in 1987 by two public health officials and in 2004 the World AIDS campaign became it’s own organization. The theme for 2011 through 2015 is “Getting to Zero”. How do you plan on doing your part?
