Get More: MTV's 16 and Pregnant (Season 3), MTV Shows
Response 1
The answer to this question is complicated; yes & no. And it all depends on the depiction of the story and the end message of the episode. While the show may deter teens from sexual activity by showing the hardships the girls face, it also depicts the support and attention the girls receive; in a way glamorizing pregnancy. Because it deals with pregnancy rather than sex, the show takes for granted that teens are already engaging in sexual activity and therefore accepts it which may encourage teens to have sex.
Response 2
No because it is just to entertain audience. Teens have common sense not to do anything stupid that’s on TV. With sexual health knowledge, teens are discouraged of the thought to get pregnant.
Response 3
Yea I do believe that some T V episodes that are about teen pregnancy encourage teens to have sex because they show how being on TV makes a family seem real happy. But at times there are parts where the people see the teen moms struggle it makes them think twice or have sex. But there should be more shows about people doing school and going to college.
Response 4
I believe that TV episodes that are about teen pregnancy encourages teens to have sex but in another way does not encourage teens to have sex. Teens sometimes look at media as something influential and motivational. Seeing people your age on television can be an exciting thing but some teenagers may do anything to get that kind of attention also. However, shows like “16 and pregnant” shows the struggle of pregnant teens and not many teens want to deal with these struggles.
Response 5
While, I don’t believe television necessarily encourages teens to have a sex, I do think that consequences of an unplanned pregnancy are largely under played in the media. The struggles of raising a child while still a child yourself are numerous and incredibly difficult to overcome. A lot of options for one’s future are taken away and a lot of stress is added to one’s life.
Response 6
No, I don’t believe TV Episodes that are about teen pregnancy encourage teens to have sex. I think it encourage teen not to have sex because of all the drama that occur. Most shows have people struggling in school, getting put out of their homes, and also ending up being a single parent. This should make them want to get on the right path and avoid being in that situation.
Response 7
I believe that TV episodes about teen pregnancy do not encourage other teens to have sex because they can see what things they have to give up in life and what can happen if something goes wrong. They will also experience the pain that happens if they end up getting pregnant from having sex.
